For most people, owning a home is a life goal. The idea of having a space to call their own. A place to raise a family and make memories. Something to pass on to future generations. Perhaps it’s a suburban house with a white picket fence, a large country estate, or a condominium in the heart of the city. Many people have a dream home in mind. Unfortunately, the reality often doesn’t meet this expectation. From skyrocketing utility and tax bills to traffic jams and restrictive HOAs, property ownership can often seem more like a nightmare.

Beyond these hassles of property ownership, there is a more fundamental issue. Real estate doesn’t move. Life used to be more straightforward: find a good job at a local company and spend your career climbing the ladder. Spend your entire life in the same region, often even the same city, where you were born. Nowadays things aren’t so linear. People have countless jobs and often move across or even between countries many times. Investing your life savings into a piece of property forces you to either limit your career and life options to what is local or make the difficult decision to sell your dream home and move. What felt like freedom eventually becomes a prison.

The alternative is to rent instead of own. There are certainly advantages to renting such as flexibility and cost savings. That being said, at some point the novelty of moving starts to wear off. Packing and unpacking becomes more painful each time and you never feel fully settled in. Not owning means that you can never truly make the place your own. You hesitate to invest in improvements since you know you likely won’t be there long to enjoy them. As well, there is always a landlord and often difficult neighbors. Renting allows mobility but never provides true stability.

There is a better option. An option with no power bill, no water bill, no property tax, amazing waterfront views, and true ownership of your forever home. An option that doesn’t shackle you to one place but rather sets you free to explore the world while bringing the comforts of home along with you. That option is a solar-electric house yacht, such as the Atlas 64 from Atlas Yachts.

Name a place you love that your life doesn’t let you live. Reply and tell me. I read everything.
